The city of Owen Sound wants to clear some confusion about a water testing program.
Operations Director John Johnston says city costumers have been receiving calls recently asking to have their water tested.
Johnston wants everyone to know it is not the city making those calls.
He says it looks like a company is trying to sell reverse osmosis treatment systems.
Johnston says the company is doing nothing wrong, but most people are just automatically assuming it’s the city needing to test water.
Johnston says the problem here is that the city will soon be making calls under the province’s mandatory lead testing program.
He doesn’t want people to be confused about who is making those calls.
Johnston says city workers will always identify themselves, describe the program, set up an appointment, and arrive in city vehicles.
The provincial program, run twice a year, targets older homes where lead pipes and lead soldering may still be present.
Johnston says calls asking homeowners to take part in the program will be made by the city next week.
