Kincardine’s building statistics are a little soft this year.
Building and Planning Department Manager Michele Barr says one of the main reasons for the shortfall this year, is the lack of permits issued for wind turbines like they were last year.
In February the municipality issued seven permits worth 463 thousand dollars.
Last February 14 permits were issued for 5.7-million dollars which included the wind turbine project.
Year to date, 19 permits have been issued for 1.2 million dollars.
Last year, if you remove the wind turbine permits, the value sat at 2.5-million.
Barr says Kincardine is a bit behind this year because of the soft housing market, brought on by the economic conditions facing everyone.
However, Barr hopes that things will improve as the year goes on and will end up on a par with last year’s results.
