The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is calling for residents to be careful around local streams and rivers.
Water and Planning Manager Alec Scott says they’ve issued a flood safety/monitoring bulletin due to the large amounts of rain predicted for the weekend.
He says they ABCA wants municipalities and the general public to be aware of the possible heavy rainfall in store over Saturday and Sunday.
Scott says they’re not predicting any actual flood advisory or warning conditions, but things can change very quickly once a storm actually hits the region.
He says they’re advising people to stay away from any watercourses for the weekend and to be very careful around streams or rivers that still have ice.
Scott says the ice will be very weak after a few days of warmer temperatures but the water underneath will still be very cold.
He says it won’t take long in a river before hypothermia can set in.
The Conservation Authority will continue to monitor watershed conditions over the weekend.
