What a difference a year makes.
Saugeen Shores building statistics for the first two months this year is a far cry from the same period last year.
Town Chief Building Official Jim Bell says for the first two months the total construction value is 1.6-million-dollars.
Last year it was a whopping 22-million-dollars.
Bell says the difference is because of development charges.
Last year the charges were being instituted in March and many developers wanted to beat the levy so they applied for building permits in January and February.
Fifty-three home constructions permits alone were issued at that time.
Bell says part of this year’s slow-down is also due to the economy but he sees brighter times ahead.
He’s been in contact with many developers and they’ve got work planned for Saugeen Shores through the spring and summer months.
