The Detroit Red Wings are sitting atop the overall N-H-L standings following a 3-2 victory over Colorado.
The Stanley Cup champs won for the fourth time in five games to reach 94 points, one more than San Jose and Eastern Conference-leading Boston.
Scoring for the Wings were Valtteri Filppula, Johan Franzen, and Kris Draper.
Detroit skated without its top scorer Marian Hossa.
He’s day-to-day with a sore neck and knee, from Tuesday’s head-first crash into the boards at St. Louis.
Patrick Lalime benefited from the Buffalo Sabres’ best offensive night in three weeks, to post his first win in two-and-a-half months.
Lalime stopped the first 36 shots he faced, as the Sabres dumped Montreal 5-1.
Buffalo ties Carolina for ninth place in the tightly contested Eastern Conference standings.
Derek Roy and Paul Gaustad each scored twice for the Sabres.
Lalime says it was only a matter of time before they got some goals, while snapping an 0-5-and-1 skid.
