The legacy of Owen Sound’s 150th Anniversary celebrations will continue for years to come.
Event Facilitator Doug Cleverley says a Legacy Fund has been set up with surplus money from Homecoming 2007.
Cleverley says the events wrapped up with 16-thousand dollars in surplus, some of which has already gone toward legacy projects like tree plantings and plaques.
The Owen Sound 150th Anniversary Legacy Fund has been launched with a nest egg of 13-thousand dollars.
Cleverley says the Fund will be managed by the Community Foundation of Grey Bruce.
Cleverley says the only requirement placed on Fund use at this time is community improvement.
Cleverley says he knew of the success of a legacy fund in Saugeen Shores and believes all communities can benefit from them.
He says why put funds toward a one-time use in the community when you can establish a fund that people and future events can continue to contribute to and generate many community improvements.
Cleverley says the 13-thousand is a starting point and the fund will be grown through investments, fundraisers, donations, and other community events.
