The Ride for Sight is coming back to Collingwood.
Chair Mike Harwood says they’re thrilled to be back in town.
He says the Ride for Sight is a charitable fundraising event, where motorcyclists raise funds for vision research through The Foundation Fighting Blindness.
100 percent of the funds raised by riders goes to the foundation.
Harwood says they are expecting about 5 thousand riders at least this year in Collingwood for the Friday and Saturday.
He says there will be about 2 thousand riders in the parade from Toronto.
It’s taking place the weekend of June 20th, and 21st.
He says the parade will be rolling into town around noon on the 20th.
Harwood says they will now be holding the event all over town.
He says it will be held in various places across Collingwood, as opposed to just holding it all at the Fairgrounds.
The public can also raise money in support of a rider.
He says they are also looking for volunteers to help out during the event in Collingwood.
Kim Mitchell will be the headliner on Saturday night.
The ride has raised 17 million dollars over the past 30 years.
Harwood says the average is 1.2 million dollars per year all across Canada.
And the ride in Central Ontario ride usually raises about 700 thousand dollars.
He says taking part in the ride is a very emotional experience, and Harwood says his father suffers from macular degeneration.
He says that’s why he rides, and it’s hard not to get a lump in your throat when you see the amount of support.
