The Avon-Maitland District School Board is embracing new technology to help teach students more effectively.
Superintendent of Education Mike Ash says Smart Boards are in place in almost all of their schools.
Smart Boards are interactive whiteboards that have touch screen technology and are hooked up to a computer.
Ash says they have recently been installing three to six boards a week in certain schools within the district.
He says they had to bring in extra people to install the boards in classrooms, which takes about three hours.
Ash says the Smart Boards, which can cost around four thousand dollars, are paid for completely by the individual schools that want them.
He says they want to make sure that teachers and their classes really want to learn the new technology and that is done by fundraising efforts at the local level.
Ash says some of their teachers who use the boards could be considered provincial leaders in the technology and are always learning more about what they can do.
