Looks like a decision on an expanded Walmart in Owen Sound will not be made by city council Monday night.
Earlier this month we told you that Metro Foods, owner of the local Food Basics and A & P stores asked council to defer their decision until they could bring forward new information regarding the impact an expanded Walmart grocery section would have on them.
Director of Community Services, Pam Coulter says now Walmart’s lawyers have asked for a further extension into April.
Coulter says Walmart wants to make sure city officials have enough time to completely review the information from Metro before making any decisions.
Coulter says the report from Metro will include information on store sales and how their stores are already faring in the Owen Sound market.
Council is expected to agree to the deferral.
Coulter figures it won’t come up again until about April 20th.
Walmart is asking the city to consider a zoning bylaw amendment to expand its grocery section to 35 thousand square feet.
