There’s been a change in the governance of South Bruce Grey Health Centre.
President and CEO Paul Davies says based on the Auditor-General’s report, the hospital services board has updated its bylaws to include a member advisory classification which has responsibilities for sitting on the nominating committee of the board, putting forth names to be eligible board members.
However, there are some who oppose what’s happening in the health services of the area, calling it a move to eliminate them from having any say in the future make-up of the board.
They suggest where you could at one time pay $5 and become a member of the hospital services organization, that has now been eliminated.
They say that effectively prevents them from having any say at an annual meeting with no voting rights.
Davies confirms the advisory members have no voting rights with only the board members having that opportunity.
Davies says the move simply changes the status of the regular member to an advisory member and gives them different rights.
Davies says the motion came forward to the board a couple of weeks ago and it was adopted.
Once it was adopted it went into effect immediately until the next meeting of the members of the corporation.
Davies says at that meeting a couple of weeks ago, it was ratified with only two dissenting votes.
