CTV Globemedia is closing both the Wingham station and one in Windsor.
Paul Sparkes, executive vice-president of corporate affairs at CTVglobemedia, says the economic model for television in this country is broken.
In a release, the media giant says it will not renew the licences for its Wingham and Windsor stations when they expire at the end of August.
Sparkes adds the decision was difficult — but the company may need to consider similar action in other markets.
The stations in Wingham and Windsor operate under the A brand.
Those two areas will now have to rely on A-Channel in London for any local CTV news.
A spokesperson in London says a News Bureau will be maintained in Wingham but declined to say anything about job losses … or whether a bureau would remain open in Windsor.
In less than 2 years, all TV stations in Canada are scheduled to broadcasting in HD, but company officials are not linking the closures to that change.
