Brockton’s Physician Recruiter has updated council on efforts to bring more doctors to the community.
Recruiter Joe Rys says they’re “guardedly optimistic” right now and have three or four potential doctors interested in coming to the area.
Walkerton and Area Physician Recruitment keeps in close contact with medical students from the surrounding area and hosts visits for potential doctors.
They also hope to have an incentive package program for new doctors in place by the end of this month.
Rys says the situation currently isn’t bad but they could use two or three new physicians just based on the number of local residents who are seeking a family doctor at this time.
He says progress has been made in recent years with new medical clinics in Mildmay and Paisley and work will begin on the new facility soon in Walkerton.
Rys says programs like Med Quest, which encourages young people to develop medical careers in rural areas, along with the Family Health Team system are also positive assets to local health care.
