The fight to bring 50-acre farms to Bruce County is being put on the shelf.
The Agriculture, Tourism, and Planning Committee last week decided to suspend their battle with the Province over setting the minimum farm lot size in the County.
The County hired a consultant — Meridian Planning Consultants — to help them build a case against the Province in the event the matter goes to the Ontario Municipal Board.
But Councillor and Committee Chair Charlie Bagnato says the consultant has suggested that putting more money into this would end up being a waste of taxpayers dollars.
Around 17 hundred dollars would be needed to continue the study and that money has not been budgeted for this year.
If the matter were to go to the O-M-B, it would have cost the County another 80 thousand.
Bagnato — the Mayor of Brockton — says they have to be prudent with the tax dollars and be responsible.
He says if the consultant who has everything to gain by continuing with the study recommends that you do not go any further then you have to listen to their advice.
Bagnato says the Province has been opposed to the Countys plan to reduce minimum farm lot sizes from 100 acres to 50.
But he says they have already laid the ground work for future Councils in case they want to bring this matter up again.
