Grey Bruce Farmers will get a chance to comment on Ontario proposed Green Energy Act tonight in Walkerton.
The Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Ontario sustainable Energy Association sponsoring the meeting to hear farmers views on the legislation and how they can help create green energy.
OFA Vice President Don McCabe says farmers in Grey Bruce are frustrated because they cannot fully contribute to the future of green electricity in Ontario because of a lack of capacity of the grid.
He says what is needed is an upgrade of the transmission line infrastructure so it can handle any extra power generated on the farm.
McCabe says tonight’s meeting also will allow the OFA to explain more about the proposed legislation.
He says many farmers would like to be able to producer green power through either windmills on the land, solar panels on buildings or the use of biodigesters.
McCabe says production of power also will provide another income sources for farmers as well.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 PM and is being held at the Walkerton Legion.
