A recent news story did not sit well with the Deputy Mayor of Kincardine.
Kincardine Councillor Marsha Leggett told Bayshore Broadcasting News last week that a monthly meeting involving Mayor Larry Kraemer, Deputy Mayor Laura Haight, and CAO John deRosenroll raises concerns about transparency.
Haight read a prepared statement at last nights Council meeting to answer Leggetts criticism of the meetings.
The statement says the meetings are scheduled as part of a monthly calendar of meetings, they are open for the rest of Council to attend, and no decisions are being made at these meetings.
Haight says the meetings are nothing more than coffee talk about the issues of the day.
She says topics range from the weather to how everyone spent their holidays.
Haight says she was disappointed that Leggett didnt ask the question of the meetings beforehand or asked Kraemer or her directly.
She says Leggett has since apologized and has accepted her apology.
Haight admits that the communication between the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Council is not the best but their efforts show that they are trying.
She says Council needs to focus on telling everyone at the table what is on their mind.
She says not only do those on Council deserve what needs to be heard so do the people who elected them.
Haight chaired last nights meeting as Kraemer was away on another matter.
