The 2009 Operating and Capital Budget has been recommended to Wasaga Beach Council for approval by the Committee of the Whole.
The Committee of the Whole put it’s stamp of approval on the document at a meeting last night.
The proposed tax increase is 2.8 percent, and the total budget is 41.2 million dollars.
That is compared to 43.8 million in 2008.
Treasurer Lynn Morton says they’ve been fairly conservative, and the tax increase is very reasonable.
She says some of the capital projects this year include a new fire hall, and a large public works project that will take care of the flooding issues seen in 2008.
There was also an amendment to staffing requests, that will see 2 new firefighters hired as well.
Morton says the taxpayers in Wasaga Beach are seeing a tax rate decrease, but home assessments mean they are paying more.
The operting budget sits at 26 million dolars, while the capital budget is 15.2 million.
This year council decided that no allowance will be made in the 2009 budget for additional policing costs this summer. There is a reserve of just over 200 thousand for that purpose, at the discretion of council.
