It is a big disappointment for people in Markdale pushing for the new Centre Grey Hospital in Markdale.
In an exclusive interview with Bayshore Broadcasting News, Provincial Health Minister David Caplan says there is no way the hospital project will go ahead in the forseeable future.
He says while the government has invested more than two million dollars in the design and plans for the 50 million dollar facility, funding for the project will not be included in this spring budget.
Caplan says there are three or four dozen hospital projects waiting for final approval in Ontario and he is unable to make any commitment timing wise on when the new Markdale Hospital project would get the green light from Queens Park.
The Health Minister says however, the Centre Grey Hospital is still on the government’s radar but its a very difficult decision to determine what project will move foraward and which ones will remain on the drawing board.
Caplan says all of these projects are important especially to the people living in places like Markdale and he wants to be fair about the distribution of health resources around the Province.
Support for the project in the Markdale area is very strong as a local fundraising committee raised around 13 million dollars for the new hospital.
