Kathi Maskell hopes this years budget would see no more than a 3 per cent tax increase.
She has instructed the Town staff to keep their respective budgets at that level.
She is confident they will come up with a rate that is reasonable.
Maskell says these are challenging times for a lot of people and doesnt think a large tax increase at this time would be appropriate.
Maskell doesn’t like the fact the Saugeen Conservation Authority approved its budget with an 8 per cent increase in the general levy.
Maskell says Hanovers share of the levy has more than doubled from 45 thousand dollars in 2003 to around 100 thousand today.
She says no one on Council would ever agree to an 8 per cent increase.
Budget meetings are scheduled sometime at the end March.
