Friday the 13th was anything but unlucky for the Victorious Living Centre in Owen Sound.
Reverend Randy Kennedy says they received word the financial details to build a homeless shelter have been finally been approved.
Kennedy says the Victorious Living Centre previously has received all the necessary municipal permits to construct the 16 bed shelter and now their financial ducks have been lined up they can begin renovations almost immediately.
The shelter will have two split dorms for the men with five beds in each and a separate dorm with six beds for women.
Reverend Kennedy is hopefully the emergency shelter can be up and running in several months time.
He says because of the situation with the homeless in this region, the shelter probably will be filled up with in a night.
Kennedy says once the word gets out about this not just being an emergency shelter but a first stage operation with follow up and counselling, they will be seeing more and more of the transient population in Grey Bruce.
He says while they have funding in place now to renovate their building and set up the shelter, they are still looking for funds to help run the facility in the future.
Kennedy says ideally he would like people or groups to partner with the centre to help fund the operation of the shelter and the other aspects of the ministry like the transitional homes and on going counselling.
