The Spectacle of Sport

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

Is sport a spectacle ?

And can a spectacle be a sport ?

It depends on your perspective, but no matter what you believe, a new event, sporting or spectacle, for the City of Owen Sound is just 10 days away as " Monster Madness " stages their final event of the 2019 tour season.

As the name implies, we're talking Monster Trucks here, 5 of them in fact coming to Victoria Park for the October 26th weekend.

As part of the glitter and pizzazz attached to the event, the 5 competitors have cool imagery including the current series leader " Anger Management ".

" Anger Management " will be challenged in Owen Sound by " Loud & Dirty ", " Rat Nasty ", " Train Wreck " & " Temperature Rising "

It sounds fun and there's no doubt there's immense appeal for an audience watching massive horse power and 12,000 pounds of vehicle smashing & crashing around the circuit.

How do they compete ?

I wouldn't know the exact scoring formula, but over 2 days there's racing, freestyle competition, Wheelies, Donuts and Trick Driving plus for the really adventurous, they've organized audience rides in the Monster Trucks.

The organizers are enthused to be holding their 2019 final in a first-ever showcase at Owen Sound's Victoria Park and you can catch the sport...or the spectacle, October 26th & 27th.

I'm Fred Wallace
