Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The 2019 Bluewater Tennis Championships were conducted Wednesday in Southampton.
The Owen Sound District Wolves won the overall school title.
What I found remarkable was that 5 different Bluewater schools all claimed a championship in one of the categories contested.
The 2019 Girls Singles winner was Megan Martin of the Sacred Heart Crusaders of Walkerton while the Boys Singles Champion, somewhat uncontested, was the talented Nolan Smith from the Georgian Bay Thunder at Meaford.
The most unique title was the Girls Doubles event captured by Miki & Minor of Owen Sound District. My understanding is that Miki is Japanese and Minor is German and they are both attending OSDSS as exchange students.
The Boys Doubles were captured by Kahgee & Roychowdry from the Saugeen District Royals while the Mixed Doubles Champions were Wilkins & Pickett of the Peninsula Shores Phoenix.
The champions now advance to the CWOSSA Tennis Championship next week at Waterloo.
As we head into the weekend, let's talk some hockey.
The Owen Sound Attack get another divisional test on the road when they travel to London to meet the Knights
The Attack have won 2 in a row. The Knights have won their last 3 outings.
The biggest game in the region is likely in Collingwood tonight where the Colts are hosting Markham in a first place showdown in the Ontario Junior Hockey North Division.
That's a 7:30 start at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.
And in Senior Hockey, the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks will try again.
After their opening game at Kincardine against Ripley was halted due to ice & venue conditions, the Winterhawks host Durham tonight.
Game time at the Plex is 8:30 pm with the Tailgate Party starting this afternoon at 5:30 pm
Happy Thanksgiving. Have a great weekend.
