Bench Talk / Off The Wire

Mother Nature, God & The Insurance Industry

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

I have an idea that Mother Nature, or God, is a fan of cross country running.

I'm also fairly convinced that Mother Nature, or God, has a sense of humour.

I came to these conclusions at the 9th annual Georgian Bay Coyotes race last weekend at Georgian Bay Community School.

As has been the case every year when I travel to Meaford for this event, as soon as I get to the top of the Bayview Hill, the weather shifts dramatically; sometimes windy, sometimes drizzle, sometimes a downpour.

But in every instance, once I arrive at the Athletic Field, the weather doesn't clear up, but rather hangs there, for hours, threatening to force a cancellation- but, you know the races have NEVER has been cancelled.

AND, once the last race is completed, without FAIL, then, and only then, do we get a kiss from Mother Nature, or God, and get a postcard Fall afternoon in the town of Meaford.

The 2019 Coyote Race went very smoothly.

Nine races, 300-400 kids I assume from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. no major issues and no injured participants

The Senior Champions this year for the Grade 7 & 8 divisions were Chantal Abbott of Admiral Collingwood who turned in a time of 11 minutes 49 seconds in the Girls 3K and Cooper Loblaw from Headwaters Academy who won the Boys 3K in 11:05

To conclude, while Mother Nature, or God, has been mostly supportive for the Coyotes, the same cannot be said for the insurance industry which, until there was a last minute step-up, threatened the 2019 event more so than any form of weather.

Here's hoping that for the 10th Coyote Race the weather in Meaford is clear, and the insurance logistics are cleared up.

I'm Fred Wallace
