Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Earlier this month, I was at Legacy Golf Club for the annual " Swing Your Sticks for Charity " Tournament.
The day concluded with a great dinner in the Legacy Clubhouse in which prizes were awarded, but more significantly, through their full tournament roster of players & their extensive lineup of sponsors, the distribution and direction of funds generated were documented by MC Rob Dutton.
The list of players, the list of sponsors and the list of people & organizations who are supported via the tournament is very impressive.
Among those on hand at " Swing Your Sticks " was Community Foundation Grey Bruce Executive Director Stuart Reid who did a nice thank you speech and outlined the growth of the foundation, a growth that indicates the principal is now in the neighbourhood of $ 16 million dollars.
From the pool of principal monies, the interest generated is dispersed to various organizations and charities in Grey & Bruce.
I mention this today as among those under the Community Foundation Grey Bruce umbrella is the lacrosse Endowment Fund which has contributed around $ 40,000 over the course of the past 4 years.
From that investment into Community Foundation Grey Bruce, which includes both donations and endowments, the return, or interest, has paid for significant floor time for various lacrosse programs in recent years; Minor Lacrosse, Junior Lacrosse & Women's Lacrosse.
Of note, since the Senior Men's Lacrosse team is now privately owned, funds from the Lacrosse Endowment Fund to Community Foundation Grey Bruce can no longer be directed to the Bug Juice NorthStars. Rules are rules.
Still, the Lacrosse Endowment Fund is a shining example of how a specific organization, sports or otherwise, can partner with Community Foundation Grey Bruce and establish a support base in which funding for now, and for many tomorrows, can be achieved.
