Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
A very successful Softball Canada event concluded yesterday at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound as the Shallow Lake Sting took the Under 19 National title.
As has become their tradition, the Sting did it the hard win, winning 3 elimination games on the final day climaxing with a 14-2 demolishing of the Delisle Pride in the Championship Game.
Forgetting the result of the final, what has made this particular group of players extremely fascinating is the balance of competition.
Shallow Lake did win the title, but being honest, you could start that tournament again today and have a number of possible outcomes.
Delisle destroyed most of the competition all week.....but lost to Shallow Lake twice.
The Belmore Sting won the Bronze Medal, and likely believe the medal should have been/should have been gold after they surrendered a lead in the semifinal against Shallow Lake.
The KW Twins beat Shallow Lake in the preliminary round and came up on run short against Shallow Lake in the opening game yesterday.
And it's not a stretch to think that either the Colchester Royals or Napanee Express could have captured the Championship with a twist here or there.
But in the end, for the second time in less than a half decade, the Shallow Lake Sting have taken a Softball Canada Championship while playing at Duncan McLellan Park.
I'm Fred Wallace
