Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The School Calendar is just about complete from an athletic standpoint, certainly at the high school level it is with OFSAA events aplenty last week.
So, is it too early to talk about " next " school year ?
I was nudged into thinking about next year at the Elementary School level when the Georgian Bay Coyotes sent out their notice of their 8th annual Coyote Cross Country Race.
The 2019 meet will be staged on Saturday, September 28th at the Georgian Bay Community School Athletic Field.
I don't know that I've been to all 8, but I can say from experience, give or take the weather, it's always been a very good experience.
The Coyote Race is open to all elementary runners in Grey & Bruce from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8
Actually, through the years, I've noted a handful of competitors drifting over from Simcoe County which is a testament to the appeal of the event.
There are many factors that have contributed to the growth of the Coyote Race to more than 400 runners last year.
Yes, there are competitive factors, but also so many runners are participating as part of a school team.
The race distances range from 800 metres to almost 3K at the senior level.
The numbers will be capped at 500 runners for 2019 so athletes and teacher/coaches are encouraged to register on-line at the Coyotes website, www.georgianbaycoyotes.com, as soon as possible in the " next " school year.
All race information will listed on our website by August 25th
Keep in mind, the race entry deadline is Wednesday, September 25th and there is no race-day registration.
I might be a little premature on " next " school year, but for cross country runners they've got all Summer to prepare for the annual Coyote run at Meaford.
