Mets Host Seinfeld Night

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

Major League Baseball teams have a lot of home dates to fill, 81 every season.

With that many dates on the calendar, that creates a lot of creative opportunities for the promotions department of an MLB club to try and enhance the fans experience at the ball park

Among the more unique promotional dates is Friday July 5th at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

The Mets are going to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the pilot episode of the TV show " Seinfeld ".

As you know, 30 years after the initial airing, Jerry, Elaine, George & Kramer are still on our sets multiple times per day and in the eyes of many, is considered to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all-time,

Of course, one of the best Seinfeld episodes centers around former Met Keith Hernandez.

Hernandez encounters Jerry & George in a health club locker room.

Hernandez becomes fast friends with Jerry, maybe too fast for Jerry.

Hernandez dates Elaine who is smitten with Hernandez until she realizes he smokes.

And Kramer, well eventually he and Newman forgive Hernandez over a perceived spitting incident at a Mets game on June 14th, 1987.

I've seen the episode many times, and it's still fresh.

So on July 5th when the New York Mets host the Philadelphia Phillies, Jerry Seinfeld, Keith Hernandez and Larry Thomas, a.k.a. the "Soup Nazi" will all be at Citi Field for Seinfeld Night.

No word on whether the Toronto Blue Jays are planning to have a Degrassi Night in the future.

I'm Fred Wallace
