Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
A remarkable Minor Hockey season for the Owen Sound Leeder & Associates Attack came to a conclusion on Sunday, essentially just one win and one goal short.
The Leeder & Associate squad was at Kapuskasing for the Ontario Hockey Federation Atom " A " Championship Tournament representing the Ontario Minor Hockey Association as their champion, pitted against 3 other regional champions and the host team from Kapuskasing .
In the preliminary round, Owen Sound went 3 & 1 defeating the Toronto Eagles, Kapuskasing & Waterloo while losing to Tamiskaming Shores.
In the semifinal, the Junior Attack doubled up Kapuskasing 4-2 to earn a berth in the OHF Championship where they were shaded 2-1 by Waterloo.
No question, Leeder & Associates wanted Gold, but had to settle for Silver in a year that featured a combined record of 66 wins, 8 losses & 3 ties.
There's always alteration in Minor Hockey, as in life, and some of the Junior Attack will depart for Triple A, find another activity or be part of family that moves- those are familiar story lines.
But I wonder if the group and Owen Sound Minor Hockey has considered hosting the OHF Tournament in 2 years time when the Atoms have graduated to the Peewee level, which was the age group for the last OHF Tournament held in Owen Sound quite some time ago.
