Terriers Slide Continues
Beard with 2 goals in loss to Flyers, Clarke assumes head coaching duties.
A new year and a new coach but unfortunately the same result for the Subaru of Orillia Terriers.
A strong third period was not enough to overcome an early deficit as the Terriers fell 8-4 to the Midland Flyers on Saturday night.
After Jacob Beard (2 goals) put Orillia up 1-0, Midland scored 4 goals in the first period and three more in the second for a 7-1 lead.
The Terriers did get some scoring opportunities in the second period.
Luke Charlebois (2 assists) was alone in front of the net but could not connect on a pass.
Then Nevin King (2 assists) had an open net but shot the puck wide.
Orillia opened the third with goals by Ben Garrett, Beard, and Ben Schryer before Xavier Drummond (3 goals, 1 assist) scored late in the period to complete the hat trick.
Alex Trenton (1 goal, 4 assists) and Max Healy (1 goal, 2 assists) also had multi-point games while Parker Heyward-Sword stopped 29 shots for the Flyers (14-19-0-2).
Derek Haourt made 31 saves for the Terriers (3-30-0-0).
Power plays saw Orillia go 1-for-5, Midland did not score in their only opportunity.
The game also saw Team President and Owner Jamie Clarke go behind the bench.
He took over head coaching duties from Keith Penna who was fired on Friday.
The next game for the Terriers is Sunday afternoon when they travel to Huntsville to face the Otters.
