Flesherton Native Officially Ends NHL Career



Flesherton native Chris Neil officially retired from the National Hockey League this morning.

The 38 year old Neil played 1,026 NHL games, all of them for the Ottawa Senators over a decade and a half.

Known mostly for his rugged play, Neil accumulated more than 2,500 penalty minutes in his career.

Neil also scored 112 goal goals in his career. highlighted by a goal in Game 3 of the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals against Anaheim.

Neil's goal tied the game at 1 that night, setting the Senators in motion for their only victory in the series as the Ducks won the Stanley Cup 4 games to 1.

The Stanley Cup goal by Neil on June 2nd, 2007 was a special moment on a special day for Neil as his daughter had been born that weekend.
