Goderich's Gateway Centre for Excellence in Rural Health is expanding its educational partnerships, to include a post-secondary institution in North Bay.
Two nursing students from Nipissing University are in the final stages of a 12-week practicum, and two more are slated to come to Huron County in 2018.
Vice President of the Gateway Board of Directors Gwen Devereaux says the practicum partnership with Nipissing is already proving its value, even at this early stage.
She hopes that the students will want to return to Huron County full-time once they graduate.
The student nurses' project involves developing a resource manual and identifying gaps in programs for seniors, with an eye to developing a Goderich-based geriatric program.
