Baycats Clobber Panthers, Take 3-0 Series Lead

Midhurst | by Ken Hashizume

Barrie is one win away from a 4th straight Intercounty League championship.

The Barrie Baycats are making short work of the Kitchener Panthers.

The Baycats hammered the Panthers 15-0 in Game 3 of the Intercounty League finals on Sunday night.

Barrie scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning highlighted by a 2-run single by Ryan Spataro followed by a 2-run double by Kyle DeGrace.

That inning began with two quick outs before 7 straight batters reached base.

The Baycats would score 4 runs in the 4th inning capped off by a 3-run home run by Ryan Rijo for a 9-0 lead.

Then in the 5th inning, Rijo slugged his second 3-run home run of the game to finish a 6-run outburst.

Rijo finished 4-for-5 with 6 RBIs, Jordan Castaldo went 4-for-6 with 2 RBIs and a run scored, and Kevin Atkinson collected 3 hits, scored twice and drove in 3.

The Panthers, meanwhile, managed only a hit (by Colin Gordner) and a walk off starter Claudio Custudio who went the distance striking out 13.

The Baycats can clinch their fourth consecutive IBL championship with a win in Game 4 Tuesday night in Kitchener.
