Winterhawks Win

Port Elgin | by John Divinski

Hawks' beat Durham 6-1 to end the season

For the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, their WOAA Senior hockey regular season is over.

They ended it Friday at the Plex, with a 6-1 win over the Durham Thundercats, in a lack-lustre affair.

Hawks coach Jim Grieve admits since the game didn't mean anything to his squad, they may have been looking ahead to the playoffs which begin next weekend.

However, the Hawks still don't know who their first-round opponents will be and won't know until after Saturday's games.

Grieve says from a travel perspective alone, he would rather play the Thundercats than Tillsonburg, which are the two possible opponents in the best of 7 quarter final series.

Tillsonburg Thunder plays Huron East Saturday night in Clinton.

Should the Thunder win, then the Winterhawks will meet Durham in the first round.

If the Thunder lose Saturday night, it will be the Winterhawks and the Thunder in the first round.

First game in the playoff series, no matter what team plays the home squad, will go Friday, February 3rd at the Plex.

Gametime 8:30pm.
