The Goderich Flyers' modest two-game unbeaten streak in the Provincial Junior Hockey League has been snapped, in a 3-2 loss to the Patriots in Mount Forest.
Goderich was coming off a one-goal victory in Mitchell Saturday, which followed their 4-4 tie on home-ice against Kincardine on December 10th.
Ryan Stulp and Noah Kuno set up Trent Michie to get the Flyers on the scoreboard with 5:47 left in the first period Sunday, after Ryan Maksymyk and Troy Oakley put the Patriots into a 2-0 lead at the Mount Forest Community Centre.
The only goal of the second period was Maksymyk's game-winner at 8:38.
Stulp fired home a buzzer-beater unassisted at the end of the third.
There was no shortage of offence for either team, as Mount Forest outshot Goderich 48 to 43.
The Patriots have moved into a virtual fourth-place tie with idle Hanover in the Pollock Division standings at 24 points, with the Barons holding a game in hand.
The Flyers meanwhile did not lose any ground behind Wingham, who dropped a 3-2 decision at Kincardine Sunday.
The Ironmen stay at 13 points, four ahead of Goderich, while the Bulldogs keep sole possession of third place with 28 points.
The Flyers face off against Kincardine at the Davidson Centre Wednesday, then return home to the Maitland Rec Centre to host Mitchell Friday.
In PJHL Yeck Division action Sunday, Christian Petrozza completed a hat-trick with the overtime winner, as the Exeter Hawks skated off with a 5-4 victory at Lambeth.
