Three games in three days against the top clubs in the Provincial Junior Hockey League's Pollock Division are a lesson for the Goderich Flyers.
That's according to Flyers' Assistant Coach Doug Cruickshank, who tells the Beach Sports that fatigue was a major factor in Goderich's 13-3 loss to the undefeated Mitchell Hawks Sunday.
The matinee game at the Maitland Rec Centre followed a 6-4 loss in Mitchell Saturday night and an 8-0 loss in Walkerton on Friday.
Derek Elliott and Chace Duckworth led Mitchell with two goals each.
Scoring single goals were Nathan Templeman, Tyler Pauli, Nic Jung, Blake Pickering, Evan Chaffe, Garrett James, Quinten Haddock, Drew Gross and MacKinnon Hawkins.
Riley Connors, Brody Tenpas and Jordan Hubbard replied for the Flyers, with two assists from Morgan Benneweis and one each from Brody Tenpas, Ryan Stulp, Riley Connors and Mitch Newson.
Five of the Hawks' goals came on the power play, and Cruickshank says Goderich's specialty teams need to improve.
He maintains that a good atmosphere in the dressing room and on the ice will help the Flyers improve from their current 1-and-5 record.
The Flyers travel to Wingham on Friday and host Hanover at MRC next Sunday, while Mitchell next plays in Kincardine on Saturday.
