Terriers Get Crushed in Season Opener

Siskins come in a get an 11-1 win in 1st game under newly-merged PJHL.


A rather humble start to the 2016-2017 Junior C season for the Davenport Subaru Orillia Terriers.
 
The visiting Stayner Siskins came in and crushed the Terriers 11-1 Wednesday night in the first game for both teams under the newly-merged Provincial Junior Hockey League.
 
Stayner opened up with a 3-0 first period lead.
 
That was followed by 5 more Siskins goals in the second period before Shane Carroll answered for the Terriers (0-1-0) and the score was 8-1 for Stayner at the end of two periods.
 
Zach Trott and Austin Fischer had two goals each for the Siskins.
 
Fischer and JD Falconer (1 goal, 2 assists) finished with 3 points while Nolan King (1 goal, 3 assists) had a 4-point game.
 
Hayden Ford made 21 saves in the win for the Siskins (1-0-0) who open the season with 5 straight road games.
 
Brendan Dale stopped 25 of 30 shots he faced before before being relieved by Curtis Handspiker (16 saves) at the 8:05 mark of the second period.
 
The next game for the Terriers is Friday night when they travel to Huntsville to play the Otters.
