Local Athletes at Ontario Games

Competition begins Friday; opening ceremonies Thursday.

Ten local under-16 field hockey players will be on the pitch on Friday at 8 AM for the opening of the 2016 Ontario Summer Games at Iceland Fields in Mississauga.

Emma Davison, Meagan Tamming, Riley Shore, Brynn Lewis, Kendra Menchenton, Shea Frayne, Fiona McIlhargey, Neeliah Lewis and Sydney Pollock (all of Goderich), and Anne Rothwell of Listowel are part of the regional 14-player roster, along with Goderich coaches Ray Lewis and Shannon Vance.

The squad will take on some of the best teams in the province.

More than 4,000 athletes, aged 13 to 17, from throughout Ontario will compete against their fellow provincial athletes in more than 30 different sporting events.

Opening ceremonies will be Thursday at 7 PM at the sold-out Hershey Centre.
