Baycats Win Playoff Opener

Cowan drives in 3 for Barrie to go up 1-0 on the Bandits in the best-of-seven.


The Barrie Baycats open up the first round of the 2016 IBL playoffs with a win.
 
Jeff Cowan drove in 3 runs in a 6-1 victory over the Burlington Bandits Thursday night to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven quarterfinal series.
 
The Bandits went up 1-0 on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Pettipiece scoring Robert Travone in the top of the 2nd inning.
 
Barrie responded with a run in the 3rd and one in the 6th for a 2-1 lead.
 
The Baycats scored 4 times in the 7th capped off by a 2-run single by Cowan to give Barrie a 6-1 lead.
 
Jordan Castaldo went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Baycats.
 
Emilis Guerrero gave up a run on 5 hits with a walk and struck out 3 over 8 innings in the win.
 
Ryan Beckett took the loss going 6-and-two-thirds innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, walking 5 and striking out 2.
 
Game 2 of this opening round series goes Saturday night in Burlington.
