2 goals by Collingwood in 5 minutes, including the game winner by Jeff Fawcett with 12 minutes left to play propelled Collingwood United to a come from behind 3-2 victory over Owen Sound Grey Motors United in the Ontario Soccer League season opener at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex Friday night.
Scott MacDonald opened the scoring for Collingwood 10 minutes into the game, moments after Collingwood goalkeeper Cameron Sauro made a brilliant save off of a hard drive from Drake Hall.
Hall managed to tie the game at the 15 minute mark and the score remained deadlocked 1-1 at half time.
Oliver Clark put Owen Sound ahead 2-1 in the 55th minute.
Sauro was red carded and ejected from the game in the 65th minute after taking down Hall as he was about to run through on a breakaway. Collingwood back up goalie Chris Brittles finished the game in net.
Zach Blakey tied the game for Collingwood in the 74th minute before Fawcetts game winner.
Owen Sounds goalkeeper Nick Bird took the loss.
"Overall it was a good game and I was quite happy with how we played for the first 70 minutes" said Owen sound coach Henrik Petersen. "We fell apart in the end, so we have lots to work on since this is the first game of the season. I am quite pleased with the way we performed".
Grey Motors United is next in action Friday at 9pm versus the Bradford Wolves. Game time at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex is 9pm. The game will be officiated by current FIFA and Major League Soccer referee Silviu Petrescu.
