Two Owen Sound Athletes Going to the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships
Two Owen Sound athletes will be part of Team Ontario at the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships, April 14-17. Morgan Kirk and Bailey Zulkosky are heading to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to play in the Under 16 “A” Division.
Bailey and Morgan play for the Guelph Predators; one of 22 “U16 A” provincial ringette teams who compete throughout the season. Guelph won gold, and the designation as Team Ontario, at the provincial ringette championships this past weekend in Timmins.
The team defeated the City of Ottawa, Forest, Gloucester/Cumberland, and Timmins, losing to Ajax and West Ferris in round robin play. Guelph ended up tied for third but advanced following a 2–1 win over Ajax in a 10-minute tiebreaker game. In the semi-finals, they beat Forest 1-0 in overtime. Finally, defeating West Ferris 5-2 in the gold medal game.
Bailey Zulkosky earned three assists and held strong throughout the tournament in defense, while Morgan Kirk, who plays centre, earned the tournament’s highest points with 11.
The Guelph Predators U16A Ringette team struck Gold at the 2016 Ontario Provincial Championships in Timmins, Ontario this past weekend after beating West Ferris 5-2 in the Final.
Leading the way for the Predators was Owen Sound product Morgan Kirk, who finished the Championship tied for the Overall Scoring lead with 11 points, notching 7 goals and 4 assists.
Another Owen Sound product, Bailey Zulkosky, played sound defensively for the Preds and finished with 3 assists to help propel the team.
Kirk, Zuikosky and the rest of the Predators team will now represent Ontario at the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships in Charlottetown, PEI on April 14-17, 2016..
