Attack Reel In The Steelheads

Mississauga | by Fred Wallace

Szypula scores four goals as Owen Sound beats Mississauga 10-2 in the OHL.

Ethan Szypula had four goals as part of a five-point night as the Owen Sound Attack routed the Mississauga Steelheads 10-2 in the OHL on Friday.

Szypula's four goals finished one goal shy of the franchise record for goals in a game -- held by Wes Goldie and Josh Bailey.

Justin Brack also scored twice for the Attack (27-20-10). Jonah Gadjovich, Sean Durzi, Kevin Hancock and Bryson Cianfrone added singles on Friday night.

Only four Attack skaters failed to register a point.

In fact, goalie Michael McNiven picked up a point and also made 13 saves in picking up his 18th win of the season.

Mason Marchment and Nicolas Hague replied for Mississauga (30-26-4).

Former Attack goalie Jack Flinn allowed three goals on seven shots before being replaced by Joseph Murdaca, who allowed seven goals on 32 shots.

Owen Sound's victory -- combined with a 5-2 win by the Soo Greyhounds over the Flint Firebirds -- clinched a playoff berth for both the Attack and the Hounds.

Owen Sound's next two games are at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

The Attack will host the Sarnia Sting at 7:30 PM on Saturday.

Sarnia is coming off a 6-2 win over the Barrie Colts on Friday.

Owen Sound will also play a makeup game against the Niagara IceDogs at 7 PM on Monday.
