Flyers Take Series Opener
Logan scores OT goal in Midland's win over Kings, North makes 64 saves for Penetang.
The Midland Flyers open their Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey playoff series with a win over their crosstown rivals.
Bobby Logan scored 17:04 in the first overtime to give the Flyers a 3-2 win over the Penetang Kings on Friday night.
It was the Kings that got on the board first on a goal by Caleb Stephens 75 seconds into the first period.
Brad Kuepfer's power play goal would give Penetang a 2-0 lead before Matt Hudgin answered for Midland 1:09 later.
Then Jake Walter scored for the Flyers with 4 seconds left in the period to tie the game at 2-2 after one.
There was no scoring for the rest of regulation but the Flyers had plenty of chances to take the lead.
Andrew North finished with 64 saves for the Kings -- 55 coming in regulation.
Jake Norton stopped 35 shots for the Flyers.
Power plays saw Midland go 0-for-5, Penetang were 1-for-2.
The Flyers take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven opening round series with Game 2 Saturday night in Midland.
