Terriers Pull Out Win, Inch Closer to Playoff Spot
Micks with hat trick as Orillia is 4 points back of Penetang for 8th place.
A big win for the Jim Wilson Orillia Terriers in their effort to gain a playoff spot.
Trenton Micks had a hat trick and finished with 4 points to help lift the Terriers to a 6-5 victory over the Schomberg Cougars on Thursday.
The win moves Orillia 4 points back of idle Penetang for 8th place in the Georgian Mid-Ontario standings.
The Cougars trailed 1-0 in the first period before scoring 3 straight times to take a 3-1 lead.
Schomberg would go up 4-2 in the 2nd period then the Terriers strung together 3 straight goals of their own.
The last two -- the tying and go-ahead goals -- were scored 12 seconds apart.
Mike Barroso, Shane Carroll, and Quinn Steele round out the scoring for the Terriers (10-23-2) while Gordie Weiss stopped 46 shots in the win.
Carter LeRoux also recorded a hat trick and added an assist while J-P Crescenzi and Joesph Mete had singles for the Cougars (13-18-3).
Alex Traikos (10) and Vince Michelizzi (6) combined for 16 saves in the loss.
Each team scored twice on the power play -- Orillia on 5 chances, Schomberg with 9.
