The 27th annual Rotary Huron Shore Run, had perfect weather, fast runners and generous donators.
Hundreds of people took part in the half-marathon run, along with the 3, 5, and 10k runs and walks.
A few even walked the half marathon route.
When the dust cleared, a 23 year old--Mitchell Belford of Wasaga Beach--won the half-marathon event, male division with a time of 1:17:48 which is five minutes faster than last year's time.
Belford finished second, last year.
He says he loves the event, along with Lake Huron Shoreline while raising money for a good cause.
John Miles of Hamilton finished second this year and Chris Vallieres of Port Elgin came in third.
Belford says the Huron Shore Run was a good indicator of where he is as he gets ready for a monster 80K run in Blue Mountains this summer.
In the female division, 30 year old Danica Metcalfe of Hanover topped the half-marathon event with a time of 1:30:42.
Metcalfe tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, it was a double victory for her because she not only won, but beat her personal best time by about three minutes.
Anastasia Hardwick of Tiverton came in second and Candace Shea of Toronto was third.
Real winners in the event are the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation; the Rotary clubs of Port Elgin and Southampton and the Saugeen Track and Field Club.
Organizing committee chair John Van Bastelaar says all will get a portion of the net proceeds which are not yet determined.
However, Van Bastelaar says $70,000 has been raised before expenses which is a banner year.
He says the team of volunteers, sponsors and of course, the participants made it all happen.
