The Owen Sound Attack, in partnership with Brock University is pleased to announce that the Do it for Doczy Campaign successfully raised $46,430.73.
The Do it for Doczy Campaign was a campaign designed to help former Owen Sound Attack and current Brock University student, Milan Doczy in his battle with a rare form of Melanoma. The campaign was launched in December of 2014 and was aimed at raising funds for the expensive treatments that Milan would require as these treatments were not covered by his health insurance. In February of 2015, an anonymous donor stepped up to cover the costs of Milan’s treatments, which were expected to be in the neighborhood of $50,000.00. Despite the costs being covered, Milan would still incur serious expenses with living, schooling and travel to and from his treatments.
The funds for Milan was primarily raised through several crowd funding initiatives, the sale of “Do it for Doczy” Bracelets, Brock University students/staff and strong show of support from many NHL teams who donated jerseys for auction. The money raised was put in a trust for Milan and will continue to be held there and withdrawn on an as need basis while he continues treatments.
“The outpouring of support from the people of Owen Sound, Brock University, the hockey community, as well as Milan’s family and friends was truly special.”, aid Attack Director of Marketing and Public Relation, Brent Fisher. “While the funds will certainly go a long way in easing this process for Milan, he continues to fight a courageous battle. We ask that everyone keeps Milan in their thoughts.”
A message from Milan:
“Currently, I am undergoing the second month of a year long treatment. Even though, first month of the treatment was difficult in terms of side effects, I am doing significantly better nowadays. I would like to say how much I appreciate everyone's support, especially the support from people who donated funds towards the treatment cost. Due to melanoma and its unpredictability, it was decided that any unused funds will remain in the trust fund until I will no longer need any financial assistance towards recovery. Then, it will be decided how to best allocate these funds to financially assist others facing a similar health-related issues.”
The Owen Sound Attack wish to thank each and every person, team and organization who contributed in some way, shape or form to making this fundraising campaign a huge success for Milan.
