Smith Makes National Team

Julian Smith makes National Junior Nordic Team after World Trials

From January 8th to the 11th, the best skiers in Canada competed in the World Junior Trials at Highlands Nordic, in Duntroon, to earn one of four spots to represent Canada at the World Juniors in Kazakstan.

Julian Smith and David Askwith, of Georgian Bay Nordic, raced well in three events, despite snow squalls, high winds and wickedly cold temperatures.

January 8th

The Junior Men raced a 20km skiathlon ( 10 km classic/ 10 km skate). David Askwith was 4th in a time of 1:13:10 and Julian Smith was 23rd in a time of 1:19:01.

January 10th

The Junior Men raced a 1.7 sprint qualifier and then heats.

Julian Smith was 1st in a time of 4:20 and David Askwith was 2nd in a time of 4:25.

Both boys made the A Finals with David finishing 6th and Julian Smith taking the GOLD to earn a spot on the Canadian Team at the World Juniors in early February.

Januray 11th

The Junior Men raced a 10 km skate. David Askwith was 4th in a time of 32:40 and Julian Smith was 14th in a time of 34:10.
