Ice Dogs Snap Colts Win Streak

Barrie | by Ken Hashizume

Maletta and Jenkins each with 3 points in Niagara win, full OHL recap.

All good things must come to an end.

The Niagara Ice Dogs pulled out a win on Thursday, scoring five unanswered goals to beat the Barrie Colts 5-2.

The Colts entered the game winners of their last seven and started out strong with a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Justin Scott and Joseph Blandisi.

But the Ice Dogs came back with two in the second and three more in the third period in helping extend their winning streak to three.

Jordan Maletta (2 goals, 1 assist) and Billy Jenkins (1 goal, 2 assists) each got three points while Brandon Hope stopped 24 shots for the Ice Dogs.

Mackenzie Blackwood made 35 saves for the Colts in a losing effort.

The win moves Niagara in a virtual tie with Peterborough for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Both have 32 points but the Petes have a game in hand and sit mere percentage points ahead of the Ice Dogs.

Colts forward Kevin Lebanc got an assist on Blandisi's goal to extend his point streak to 24 games.

The next game for the Colts will be on Saturday night when they host the Sudbury Wolves at the Barrie Molson Centre.
