Winterhawks Open Against Elora

Saugeen Shores | by John Divinski

Saugeen Shores will open WOAA season against team that eliminated them.

The 2014-15 Senior AA hockey season for the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks gets underway on Saturday and it's going to be tough game right off the bat.

The Hawks are entertaining the Elora Rocks -- the same team that eliminated them from the playoffs last year.

Winterhawks coach Peter Roedger says it will be a grudge match.

He says, in addition, the Hawks have lost their opening games, the last two seasons in a row and the squad wants to change that around as well.

Roedger says their work is cut out for them.

Although they have increased the calibre of play for the local squad, the entire league has taken it to the next level as well.

Again, he points out last year's playoff run where Ripley did not look like a 6th place team when they were up against the Hawks.

Roedger says the team is excited to get the season underway and will be ready for a good game on Saturday.

Game time at the Plex on Saturday is 8 PM.

The Shallow Lake Crushers will also open the WOAA season tonight.

The Crushers host Mapleton Minto at 8:30 PM.
