Grey-Bruce | by Bayshore News Staff

Interview with Former Riverhawk JD West about basketball scholarship.

This year’s recipient of the Grey Bruce Association of Basketball Officials Jordan Fawcett Memorial Scholarship is JD West.

The award is presented annually to a graduating player from one of our 13 local high schools who have made a significant contribution to basketball in their local school and community.

The GBABO is proud to offer this award in memory of Jordan Fawcett who passed away suddenly in 2010.  To learn more about Jordan and her foundation please visit her web site at www.jordanfawcett.ca

JD West is a Mildmay resident who attended Walkerton District Community School.  He is currently enrolled in the Sports Administration Program at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.

JD is a freshman guard on the Varsity Men’s Basketball Team, #12.

He was the star of the WDCS team that went undefeated in BAA and CWOSSA which lead to the consolation championships at OFSAA in Timmins this past year.

West averaged 25 pts per game, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals per game last season.

He had season high point totals of 44 pts and 42 pts per game.

JD started his basketball at 11 years of age playing Rep-Ball in Waterloo for the Wildhawks.

This led to his selection for the regional team for the Ontario Summer Games when he was 15.

JD was picked up by an AAU team from Midland that competed all over Ontario and the United States when he was 17.

These commitments were instrumental in his success.

JD continues to ‘give back to game’ as a coach at basketball camps in Walkerton, Guelph, and Sudbury.
