Kings Lose Final Home Game

Orillia | by Ken Hashizume

A short-handed Orillia team could not sustain an early lead.

It was not the welcome home the Orillia Kings were hoping for.

An early lead on Newmarket was short-lived because of a short bench.

Matthew Campbell had three goals and six assists for the Kings in a 12-10 loss to the Saints Saturday night.

Orillia built a 4-0 lead only to have Newmarket comeback with 5 of their own to take the lead.

The game was close until the third period when fatigue started to set in for the Kings and the Saints began to pull away and hang on for the victory.

Trent Boyd, Josh Allen, and Bradley Van Dam each collected a pair of goals for the Kings.

Eric Gold (2 goals, 5 assists) led Saints players with 7 points.

It was the final home game of the regular season for the Kings after coming off a 6-game road swing.

They finish the season on the road beginning in Oakville next Friday.
