Kyle Hope scored twice as the Owen Sound Attack nipped the Plymouth Whalers 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
The Whalers led 1-0 after 2 periods of play on a first period marker by Matt Mistele.
Alex Nedeljkovic was solid in goal for Plymouth keeping the Attack at bay until Hope's first marker tied the game almost six minutes into the third period.
Whalers captain Nick Malysa took a delay-of-game penalty with less than six minutes to play, giving the Attack another power play and Hope scored his second goal of the night which stood as the game winner.
Brandon Hope posted his 28th win in goal for the Attack, making 25 saves in the process.
The loss relegates the Whalers to 8th place and virtually finalizes a first round playoff matchup for Plymouth against the Guelph Storm.
While Guelph can be passed by Erie for first in the Western Conference, it appears highly unlikely that would happen.
For the Attack, the victory moves them to 68 points on the season, 1 back of the Saginaw Spirit for 6th place in the Western Conference.
The Spirit have three games to play while the Attack now have just two games remaining; Friday night at London and then Saturday night at home to the Guelph Storm.
( You can hear Friday's game live from London on 560 CFOS with Kia of Owen Sound-Terry's Trailer Service Bearadio )
